(Re)Scape by Raza Zahid is a kinetic sculpture, in which 99 metal stems, each crowned with a white marble profile, sway gracefully in the wind.  Inspired by cattails, marble waste is given new life and becomes a medium through which viewers can visually understand the presence and rhythms of the wind, turning an invisible element of nature into a tangible and engaging experience.

JURY CITATION

What Raza Zahid is saying about the waste of marble concerns, on the traditional cutting techniques and reliance on manual labor which leave a significant waste marble behind, particularly at medium and small scale operations. This waste is often discarded in landfills or crushed for use as aggregate.

His answer to the issue is the most soft and tender gift that someone can offer to our eyes! Focusing on repurposing this “in-between’ scale of marble waste, (Re)Scape reimagines the heavy, solid nature of marble, transforming it into something light and delicate. Inspired by cattails, the design draws from the resilience and elegance as they flourish in marshlands. These monuments and installations are an absolute translation of how beauty can emerge from the unexpected.

Repurposing discarded marble, creating an ephemeral and visually striking expression of renewal is commendable in many ways.
